Welcome the NoPhone.  I was in the waiting room of my daughters dance class recently.  There were eight people waiting for their daughters/sisters classes to end, or to begin.  Of those eight, six were on their phones either playing games, texting etc.  I looked at my daughter, I then glanced at the people, my daughter looked at me and nodded to me as to say she understands.  She's 10 years old, and we often discuss smart  phones, texting etc.  I text my daughters Mom, that's it, and only in the event it has something to do with our daughter ie. not feeling well, can you get her from school, do you mind if she does something with friends etc. stuff that's important. 

I'm in the services business where we have clients.  Clients who trust us with us guiding them to betther their business.  With that said, I think they deserve our full attention, and we deliver that to them.  That's why we don't allow texting in our organization, our employees have certain circumstances when they use their bust judgement, but never with our clients, or while we're engaged with clients. 

Try this out for yourself.  Have a conversation with someone and attempt to have this conversation while they are texting with someone else.  Seems somewhat rude right?  That's because it is, and to no ones fault.  This is the only thing some people know, especially our younger generation, it's their native language.  Thank you, please, and it's nice to meet you is being replaced by WUP (what's up).  Just my opinion, but this isn't going to rank you higher in the candidate pool when looking for a job.  Every day I see the social part of our kids dwindling away.

Back in the late 90's I remeber speaking with a CEO of one of the largest tech companies in the world.  We were discussing the direction of technology and the potential downfalls of it.  He stated "my only concern is that technology will take the place of flutes, soccerballs, and paintbrushes".  I think technolongy has succeeded at that, unfortunately.  Here is a great article on the NoPhone, give it a try http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/trending-now/the-nophone-is-a-technology-free-alternative-to-a-cell-phone-174750695.html
